Filhos de Bimba School of Capoeira is the entity responsible for perpetuating the legacy left by Mestre Bimba and his Capoeira principles and philosophy. It continues to offer the same benefits Mestre Bimba always promoted and is keeping Capoeira Regional alive and updated .

Nowadays, Mestre Nenel and all the teachers working at Filhos de Bimba organize Capoeira projects to benefit people from varied backgrounds and needs, such as children and youngsters from deprived areas, young offenders, adults with mental difficulties and even elderly people.

For instance, the Capoeira project Capoére , a social project developed by Filhos de Bimba in Salvador and S. Paulo, in Brazil, has a huge impact on children from 5 — 16, from very poor backgrounds and the results that have been achieved since it begun, in 1992, have been extraordinary.

It managed to achieve impressive outcomes in terms of re-establishment and recovery of basic social, cultural and human principles amongst children at risk. Similarly, Capoeira has infused the sense of respect and responsibility within the individuals and has been extremely successful.

Another good example of the Capoeira benefits was the project FRATER, developed in S. Paulo, Brazil , with young people with serious behavioural problems. The person responsible for this two-year project was Professor Bocão , a qualified and experienced teacher from Filhos de Bimba. Following the principles determined by Mestre Nenel, Professor Bocão managed to recuperate and improve behavioural patterns and self-esteem and gave those youngsters a new meaning for their lives in the society, through discipline and rules that have to be respected within Capoeira activities.

One of the most important and positive aspects about Capoeira is the impact it has on people, not only allowing physical improvements, better balance, flexibility, agility and strength, but also, mental, psychological and social improvements, better self-esteem, discipline, respect for oneself and others and, most importantly, responsibility. Mestre Bimba once declared that he had created “the most complete type of fight, it is good for the body and for the mind”.

Depending on the type of people that composes a class, teachers will organize Capoeira activities according to their abilities and needs, always trying to improve each person's capacity so that they take the most out of the Capoeira exercises.
